Common Press Release Mistakes

By: Sagefrog

There is no scientifically proven method to secure that the media will read your press release. but there are certainly things you can avoid in order to better your chances:

  • Boring Headline— the headline (much like the subject line of an email), should entice the reader to keep reading. Make it interesting and engaging!
  • Poor Writing— bad grammar, typos, and poor sentence structure are sure fire ways to get your press release tossed in the trash.  Triple spell check and edit your piece before submitting it.
  • Poor Planning— failing to research and plan who your target audience is the number one mistake small businesses make with press releases (source).  Do the work ahead of time to make sure you reach the right audience.
