Responsive Sites vs. Native Mobile App

By: Sagefrog

It’s clear that in today’s day and age, every business requires a mobile presence, whether that be adapting their website to responsive design or launching a mobile app, but many companies are struggling with which one to choose, or whether they should have both.  The first step in tackling this issue is to ask yourself: “what are the needs of my business?”.

If your company works in mostly one-on-one consulting (e.g. a law firm), then you most likely don’t need an app.  Conversely, if your company offers online log-ins, account management, and scheduling or ordering, it’s a good idea to invest in an app.

On the surface, it may seem like responsive design is the cheaper route to go, but responsive doesn’t just mean that your site fits on any screen.  You need to consider the upgrades that may have to be made to your current site, as well as any additional add-on’s (e.g. location services, dial-able phone numbers).

Understanding both the needs of your customer base, as well as your business, will result in choosing the best option for your business.  Just remember, it’s important to stay mobile!
