Common Marketing Misconceptions

By: Sagefrog

The marketing field can prove be a confusing and vague place for those who are not directly involved in their company’s marketing planning or working with outside agency professionals.  Read the following information to educate yourself on common marketing misconceptions.

Marketing is not:

  • Sales— although marketing and sales directly influence each other  they are completely different entities.  Think of marketing as warming up the prospects, and sales as closing the deal on those prospects.
  • Branding— marketing is the action (or what you do), while branding is a representation of who your company is, or how the public sees you.
  • Public Relations— marketing is primarily focused on reaching customers, while public relations has a much broader reach (e.g. investors, communities, the media, etc…)
