Keep It Fresh: 6 Ways to Update Your Website

By: Sagefrog

Websites act as the gateway between your business and a potential customer, which is why it is crucial to have a website that is easy-to-use, aesthetically pleasing and filled with relevant content. For most people, visiting a company’s website is the first step in evaluating whether or not they want to conduct business with them. No matter what your company does, a potential client is going to want to see a website that is interactive, easy-to-use and exudes professionalism. This is their introduction to who your company is and what it can do for them.

Here are some tips to update and refresh your website:

1. Add an area for fresh content.

Such as a blog, news, industry resources, etc. From an SEO standpoint, frequent content additions send signals to Google that your site is well maintained and includes current information, which can boost your rankings.

2. Update your existing content.

Read through your “about us” section, executive bios, products and services page, etc. and determine if it needs to be refreshed.

3. Simplify site architecture.

As a company grows, it is easy to add on more pages to an existing website, but after a while, this can become confusing and convoluted. A good rule of thumb is to make sure that the homepage is just two clicks away at all times.

4. Include trust signals.

Those factors that create credibility and make the consumer confident that your site and your business are reputable. Examples of this are affiliates and partners, direct contact names, fast response times, up to date social media accounts, and trust icons or logos.

5. Make it easy to get in touch.

It is frustrating to go through an entire site only to reach a “contact us” section that only has a web form or a 1-800 number that goes to an answering system. Give consumers various ways to get in touch and make sure your response time is fast.

6. Include one or several calls-to-action.

This can be as simple as, “contact us today at..” or “for more information, call us here and a representative will get back to you.” Many websites even have a side column that provides visible contact information throughout the entire site making it easy for a potential client to get in touch from any page on the website.

These are just a few of the ways to update your current website. While a website remodel may seem daunting, there are a lot of tools and resources out there to help you.
