When you are voting tomorrow at the polls, be sure to reflect on this past year’s worth of campaigning. How much of an impact and influence did social media have on you and your choice? According to this article, social media has simply changed the political game. In the last presidential election (2008) social media was still a groundbreaking source of technology and some social sites, like Twitter, were still in the early stages.

Since then, however, social media has become an important variable in most marketing campaigns. This is made no more obvious than in the 2012 presidential election. Audiences are not simply following or liking candidates, but are advocates for their campaigns – constantly creating and sharing content. How can this be transferred into the marketing world? Passion and enthusiasm held for the subject matter is a start – but remember with passion and increased social media use comes negative opinions and posts as well.
