Hurricane Sandy Didn’t Stop Social Media Use

By: Sagefrog

You don’t need to be surfing your Facebook or Twitter feed to know that too many people were affected by Hurricane Sandy. If you were stuck indoors during yesterday’s weather (and still had power or battery life in your smartphone), it’s likely that you were visiting Facebook, Twitter or Instagram checking out how your friends and family were fairing, and tracking the storm as it moved up the East Coast. Social media posts during the storm were at an all- time high as people posted photos of their backyards, updates on their power/cable situation, and concerns for others.

Even government officials and weather services were using social media to keep the public informed. Did you share your status with the virtual world during the storm? What was the most interesting or informative thing you learned about Hurricane Sandy via social media?

Check out this article published by The Salt Lake Tribune for links to some informative social media sites for tracking Sandy, and stay safe!
